The challenge was to create a magazine that brought audiences together to feel part of the final outcome. The theme and ideation were open; the only constraint was that it needed to be over 16 pages long.
We crafted .Print, a magazine about mark-making and print by students at Hallam’s HPO Design Building.
Students came together to experiment with mark-making techniques by just making. Their brief: be free and make marks. Outcomes from the session were then presented in this magazine, alongside exclusive interviews with printmakers in Sheffield.
The display typeface, ‘Print-a-mag’, is a custom-designed typeface for this magazine. It is an uppercase, woodblock-inspired skyscraper sans serif made using Glyphs 3.
The magazine comes in two editions: a regular edition and a collector’s edition. The collector’s edition is hand saddle-stitched into an envelope and then wax-sealed to create an archive of the students’ collaboration and marks, intended to be saved, adding an additional layer to the experience of owning the exclusive magazine.
